With the blessing of His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova, the social mission of the Orthodox Church of Moldova comes to support the refugees from Ukraine.
Volunteers of the Synodal Sector for Social Assistance and Charity visit every day the customs office in Palanca and other placement centres to offer over 1000 hot meals to the refugees. Thus, social centres in Chisinau available in The North-West Hotel, Students Hostels on Ion Creanga Street, Bogdan Voievod Street, and other shelters for refugees receive daily support from the Orthodox Church of Moldova.
The meals are cooked in a number of social and philanthropic facilities of the Metropolis of Moldova: Social Canteen of the Missionary Centre “Icon of the Theotokos The Joy of all those in sorrow”, under the patronage of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, Social Centre of Holy Joaquim and Anna Parish in Singera community, Chisinau, Social and Charity Centre “Priest’s wife Irina Cij” in Chisinau, the House of Mercy of the Metropolis of Moldova, and other parishes of the Moldovan Church.
The refugee social and charity activity is supported by numerous parishes and social institutions of the country and abroad. Moldovan Orthodox Parishes in Italy pastored by His Eminence Ambrose, Bishop of Bogorodsk collected 1000 Euro for the purchase of a variety of products, such as unperishable food supplies, children’s food, linen, stationary for children, personal hygiene items (especially for women and children), etc.
We heartily thank all those who offered free housing, transport, and food, we are grateful to the priests and parishioners from church deaneries, monasteries, and we thank our volunteers who came up with support in sorting, preparing, and distributing packs for refugees.
Volunteers of the Moldovan Orthodox Church come daily to the Social and Missionary Centre at the Ascension of the Lord – Holy Friday Cathedral in Chisinau (58 Grigore Ureche St.) to collect the first need items and distribute them to the families of refugees sheltered in Chisinau and other areas of the country.
Those who want to participate in voluntary humanitarian activity are invited to donate towels, pillows, blankets, clothes for women, men, and children, food products that can be stored easily (biscuits, bagels, tea, canned food, etc.), hygiene items (especially, diapers for babies), books, activity copy-books for kindergarten and school children, pencils, markers, and other necessities.
Families and institutions who can offer housing for refugees are asked to call Sergei Crudu at +373 67223981.
