On the day when the entire Orthodoxy celebrates the Theophany – the Feast of Baptismal of our Lord Jesus Christ, the parishioners of the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral united in prayer to participate at the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir.
The Christians gathered very early in the morning waited with piety for the moment of Great Aghiasma blessing.
The Baptismal of the Lord Feast is also known as Theophany, or , showing of the Lord, because this holiday reminds us of the moment when our Lord Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist in the waters of Jordan, and God appeared among people in the Holy Trinity – the Son in the waters of baptismal, a Holy Spirit shown as a Dove above His head, and the Father’s Voice heard from Heavens:
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him. And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matt 3, 16-17).
In outstanding atmosphere of prayer, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir performed the Ghreat Aghiasma Blessing service, one of the most important events of today’s service.
