The first hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau on the Second Sunday after Pentecost, commemorating the calling of the Apostles to mission.
The event is mentioned in the Sunday Gospel Reading, giving us an example of following Lord Jesus Christ and leaving behind all earthly cares for the sake of serving God. The Apostles are witnesses of the Lord’s mission of salvation, and the name of apostle means one who is sent. Christ calls the apostles and sends them to become catchers of human souls, winning them for the heavenly kingdom.
Lord Jesus Christ Himself taught people that the true life is to know God and the One who is sent by Him, that is, the Christ. The holy Apostles showed to the people with their own example that the Heavenly Kingdom is won only by following Christ – through the Cross towards the Resurrection.
We are called especially in these difficult moments to follow the apostolate of the disciples of the Lord, and replenish our souls with the Heavenly Kingdom – here on earth, and in the life eternal.
