  • The Fifth Sunday after Holy Pascha, the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, celebrated at the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral

On the Fifth Sunday after Pascha, the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, the hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau.

The archpastor was assisted at the service by Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Metropolitan Secretary and Dean of the Cathedral, as well as by the clergy of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Gospel Reading of the day relates about a dialogue between Lord Jesus and a Samaritan Woman who came for water at the James’ Well. (John 4, 5-42).

During the conversation, Jesus Christ teaches the woman that true worship of God is only possible “in spirit and in  truth” (John 4, 24), and reveals to her that He is the Messiah, the One preached by the Prophets: “I that speak unto thee am he” (John 4, 26).

Further on, Lord Jesus sends the woman to call other people, and through this, our Lord invites all Christians to spread the Christian faith among the entire humanity.

A Thanks-Giving service followed the Divine Liturgy, uniting all parishioners and clergy in prayer of gratitude to the Lord for all mercy cast on the world.

The Samaritan Woman is a symbol of Christian mission, of preaching of love and faith, calling us to abandon all vain discussions and actions, to give glory to God and ascend in the study of the divine faith.
