22 November 2020, the 24th Sunday after Pentecost: Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau. Liturgical responses at the Divine Service were provided by the Cathedral Choir directed by Angela Angheni.
Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, the Cathedral Dean and Metropolitan Secretary, concelebrated to the arch-pastor, along with the Cathedral clergy.
The Sunday Gospel reading presents the story of the resurrection of Jair’s daughter. Along with other resurrections described in the Gospel, this event shows that Lord Jesus Christ is the source of life, is Master of life and death, and prepares the humanity for His own resurrection from the dead on the third day after Crucification.
This should inspire us whenever we are in difficulty, reminding us that Christ is our power, our Saviour, and our hope.
In the pastoral message to the liturgical community, archpriest Vadim Cheibas mentioned that resurrection is not only possible, but also necessary for any human being. Christ gives His own example to us – as Son of man, He experienced death, taking the entire human condition, including suffering and death. And after His own resurrection from the dead, Christ called us all to Life. Describing this, Apostle Paul says: “If we do not believe that Jesus rose from the dead, then our faith is vain”.
The miracle with Jair’s daughter assures us of God’s love, and the only way in which we can thank the Creator for it, is to love back God and the people around us.
During the Divine Liturgy, the arch-pastor of the Orthodox Church of Moldova prayed together with the liturgical community, for the peace in the world, and for God’s protection and help in withstanding of the severe trials we are exposed to.
