On the Sunday after the Nativity of the Lord, Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the central cathedral of Chisinau.
The arch-pastor was assisted at the service by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Cathedral Dean, and numerous clergy of the holy shrine.
The Sunday Gospel Reading mentions about the exodus of the Holy Family to Egypt.
With the blessing of the hierarch, archpriest Vadim Cheibas delivered a message of pastoral guidance, reflecting on the Scriptural text:
“The exodus to Egypt reminds of the time when the Hebrews were enslaved and humiliated in a country that worshiped idols. Although immediately after His birth, the Messiah was greeted by shepherds and the wise men from East, who brought homage and gifts, Jesus was treated with hostility and threatening of death by King Herod of Judea.
However, Infant Jesus is watched by angels, while blessed Joseph receives a calling from the High, to abandon the country and head for Egypt.
The Gospel Reading also speaks about the returning of the Holy Family from Egypt. This act also reminds about the exodus of Moses and the holy people from an environment of hostility, sin, and idolatry. It appeals to us, showing that we also need to abandon sinful life in order to dedicate our lives to the service of God, which is the only way for us to become free from sin ant its consequence – death.
