  • Protection of the Mother of God- the feast day of Chisinau celebrated at the Metropolitan Cathedral

Every year, on October 14, when the Orthodox Church celebrates the Protection of the Mother of God, His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova, celebrated the Holy and Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord” in Chisinau.

Together with the Primate of our country, prayers were offered by His Grace Ioan of Soroca, vicar bishop of the Metropolis, Protopriest Vadim Cheibaș, Metropolitan Secretary and Dean of the Metropolitan Cathedral, together with the priests and lay Christians present at the divine service.

During the Liturgy, the clergy and the faithful, in the same liturgical spirit and feeling, prayed to Our Lady for health and intercession before the Just and Good Judge.

Today’s Holy Liturgy was embellished by the ordination to the priesthood of hieromonk Macarie (Crudu), who was decorated with the right to wear the golden cross, in appreciation of obtaining doctoral degree in theology.

At the end of the divine service, the official celebration of Chisinau Day took place. The ceremony began in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord”, after which those present moved to the Great National Assembly Square where traditional and religious activities dedicated to this great feast of the Mother of God took place. This year, the city of Chisinau marks 587 years since the first documentary evidence.

Addressing the right-faithful people, Bishop Ioan underlined that Chisinau is a truly blessed city, having the Blessed Virgin Mary herself as protector and intercessor before the throne of the Almighty God.

Thus, on this great feast, as well as on this day of our lives, let us pray to the Mother of God: “All our hope we place in you, Mother of God; keep us, under your holy Covering!”
