On the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, March 24, 2024, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova, Bishop Ioan of Soroca celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau.
The liturgical responses were provided by the mixed choir of the Metropolitan Cathedral conducted by Angela Angheni.
On Sunday of the Orthodoxy, the Church celebrates the restoration of the veneration of the holy icons following the Seventh Ecumenical Council.
Today, we remember with piety the victory over heresy and we participate in the celebrations that took place in Constantinople in the 9th century, when with the active participation of the pious Empress Theodora and with the full support of the Church hierarchy and the faithful Christians, the iconoclastic era was brought to an end.
On Sunday of the Orthodoxy the martyrs and confessors who defended the right faith are commemorated annually.
The hierarch prayed especially for the archpriests, priests and lay people who lived in times of persecution and who feared neither suffering nor death and left for the generations that followed them “the priceless treasure of Orthodoxy”.
