On September 16, 2023, the First Hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, officiated the funeral service for the newly reposed servant of God Mircea-Mihail Snegur, the first president of the Republic of Moldova .
In the morning, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, the Holy Liturgy was officiated by His Eminence Petru, Archbishop of Ungheni and Nisporeni, assisted by protopriest Vadim Cheibaș, metropolitan secretary and ecclesiarch of the cathedral, protopriest Vadim Corostinschi, secretary of the Diocese of Ungheni and Nisporeni, Archimandrite Spiridon (Marin), superior monk of of Hîrbovăț Monastery, Archimandrite Pavel (Tabacari), confessor of Hîncu Monastery and an assembly of priests and deacons.
Praying at the Holy Liturgy were His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, Bishop Ioan of Soroca, hegumeness Parascheva (Cazacu), the abbess of Hîncu Monastery, the grieving Snegur family, relatives and friends.
The head of the Orthodox Church of Moldova came with a word of encouragement and compassion for the grieving family and for all those present, evoking the personality of Mr. President but also the great effort he brought to support the Orthodox Church in our country.
From the metropolitan cathedral, the coffin with the lifeless body of Mr. Mircea-Mihail was led in a funeral procession to the Palace of the Republic where those who knew him, offered a word of consolation for the grieving family, from here, the lifeless body of the country’s first president was led to the Central (Armenian) Cemetery in Chisinau.
