  • Divine Service at the Metropolitan Cathedral on the 25th Sunday after Pentecost

Sunday, 12th December 2021, Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord.

Praying at the Liturgy with the arch-pastor were archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Cathedral Dean and Metropolitan Secretary, and numerous priests and deacons of the cathedral.

After the Divine Service, Fr. Vadim delivered the message of pastoral guidance, with the blessing of the metropolitan.

The Sunday Reading related the story of the healing of a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years (Luke 13: 10-17). Holy Apostle Luke specified that the healing occurred on a day of Sabbath, which infuriated many Pharisees, who considered that Jesus broke the commandment of keeping the Sabbath that forbade any work on that day. By healing the woman on a day that was sacred for the Jewish people, Lord Jesus Christ showed that He is the Lord of the Sabbath, as Son of God. We can also see in this fragment that instead of giving glory to the Lord who cast mercy on the poor woman and relieved her from the burden of disease, the teachers of the Divine Law proved spiritual blindness, bound by ruthless tradition. Unlike them, the people present in the synagogue rejoiced for all the glorious things that God had done to that woman.
