On the second Sunday of Great Lent, 20 March 2022, His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the central Cathedral in the capital of the country.
Concelebrating to the arch-pastor were archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Dean of the Cathedral, and numerous priests and deacons of the holy place.
The Gospel Reading of the Sunday speaks about the miraculous healing of a paralytic man in the presence of a multitude of people. The Healer and the Spiritual Pastor granted to the paralytic both physical health and forgiveness of sins, showing to him and to all those present God’s parental love. This story teaches us to confess our sins and repent of them, asking Christ for both spiritual and bodily health.
The Second Sunday of Great Lent also celebrates the commemoration of Holy Hierarch Gregory Palamas, and ascetic and contemplator of God’s uncreated light. St. Gregory taught that the light that shines from God expresses the Lord’s energy and has no created origin. This light shown on the body of Lord Jesus Christ on the mount Tabor during the Transfiguration of the Lord, witnessed by Apostles Peter, John, and James.
This light is seen even in this life by holy people who pleased God and were made worthy of glory in the Heavenly Kingdom.
The following Sunday of Great Lent is dedicated to the commemoration of Holy and Life-giving Cross.
