  • Divine Liturgy in the Metropolitan Cathedral on the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6: 33)

3 July 2022, on the Third Sunday after Pentecost, His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau.

The Gospel Reading (Matthew 6: 22-33) renders the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and is resumed to the message: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6: 33). Vain is the search of ephemeral things, vain are the cares and concerns of earthly wealth and impressions, if one lives without God. Vain are sleepless nights and wasted efforts to achieve influence, material well-being, overcome others in the race for wealth. People often lose peace and quietness, emotional balance and physical health in daily concerns, and end up in exhaustion or isolation.

Jesus Christ calls people not to serve two masters – God and mammon, explaining thus that God is the source of all richness and wealth, and He grants everything to those who dedicate their lives to Him. People often make idols out of carrier, politics, family, and many other things, trying to disguise them under the mask of religiousness and piety. Often they do not deny God, or even visit church services, but their heart belongs to their own priorities and concerns.

This Sunday’s eloquent Gospel Reading teaches us to devote our lives wholeheartedly to God and perform our daily duties in prayer, Christian humility and gratitude to the Creator, mercy and philanthropic attitude to other people.

We continue the fast of the Holy Apostles, and the Church advises its children to ascend spiritually, with our minds and hearts belonging to God.
