  • Triumph of Orthodoxy celebrated in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau

Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova officiated Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau, on the First Sunday of the Great Lent.

The arch-pastor was assisted at the service by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Cathedral Dean, and numerous priests and deacons of the holy place.

Liturgical responses were provided by the Cathedral’s choir directed by Angela Angheni.

Liturgy of St. Basil the Great is celebrated during the first five Sundays of the Great Lent.

Today’s Feast – the Triumph of Orthodoxy – commemorates the restoration of the veneration of holy icons at the Seventh OEcumenical Council. The Orthodox Church thus triumphs at the victory over heresies, that is, false interpretations of Christian faith contradicting the teaching of Christ and His Holy Apostles.

Metropolitan Vladimir prayed during the Liturgy for the arch-pastors and pastors of the Orthodox Church, as well as for lay Christians who remained steady in their faith, not deviating from the Lord’s teaching.

Special litanies and prayers were uttered for the peace in Ukraine and in the entire world.

Numerous church-goers par-took in the Holy Eucharist during the Liturgy.

The following Sunday is dedicated to the commemoration of St. Gregory Palamas.
