  • The Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God celebrated in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau

On Monday, August 28, 2023, on the feast of the Dormition (Assumption) of the Mother of God, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir was among the parishioners of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau, where he celebrated the Holy and Divine Liturgy.

Together with the First Hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, the Metropolitan Secretary and Dean of the Cathedral, Protopriest Vadim Cheibaș, with the assembly of priests and deacons prayed together to share the joy of the Holy Service.

The Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos is the most important of the feasts of Ever-Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

The Holy Scriptures say nothing about the Assumption of  Virgin Mary. Instead, the hymns and songs of Vespers and Matins services of the feast reveal the Church’s tradition in this regard.
The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the last of great feasts in the Church year. It reminds us of the vocation to eternal life to which man is called.

The liturgical responses were provided by the cathedral’s mixed choir conducted by Angela Angheni.
At the Small Entrance, the cathedral’s clergyman, priest Serghei Mahnovschi was promoted by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir to the rank of Protopriest.

During the Divine Service, Monk Macarie (Crudu), a graduate of the “Isidor Todoran” Doctoral School of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the “Babeș-Bolyai” University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania and President of the Synodal Sector of Social Activity and Charity of the Metropolis of Moldova, was ordained hieromonk and appointed to ministry in the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of God” in Chisinau.

At the end of the Divine Service, numerous faithful participating in the celebration received spiritual instruction on the importance of today, being urged to pray to the Virgin Mary for help and intercession before the Just and Good Judge.
