  • The Appeal of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir to the Fullness of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, in the Context of the Parliamentary Elections of 28 September 2025

    Reverend and Venerable Fathers,

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

For the Republic of Moldova, the 28th of September 2025 marks the day of an important democratic exercise – when we are called to freely and consciously elect the legislators of our country for the next four years. In this regard, it is important that each of us, clergy or lay faithful, be able to express our civic will freely, guided only by our convictions and by the way we wish to see the future of the Republic of Moldova.

As is natural in a free society, electoral competition provides for different visions from the candidates – which is a normal thing, by virtue of pluralism of opinion, so long as these visions are sincere and do not contravene civil and ecclesiastical laws.

Nevertheless, there are not few cases when attempts are made to influence the electorate by means that do not respect the principles of freedom of choice, and this is all the more worrying when such manoeuvres attempt to involve the servants of the Church.

In this situation, we remind everyone that the Amvon is a place reserved exclusively for the proclamation of the Word of the Gospel, and no other exhortation or message that could divide and disturb society must ever be heard from there. The priest, regardless of his rank, by the oath given at ordination, is called to unite all through the proclamation of salvation in Christ, without regard to the political views of those who enter the House of the Lord.

Thus, in accordance with the Social Doctrine of the Orthodox Church, we appeal to the clergy of the Metropolis of Chișinău and of All Moldova not to allow themselves to be manipulated or drawn into political games, to abstain from political propaganda, and to encourage the faithful to exercise their right to vote freely and conscientiously, knowing that they are participating in shaping the future of our country.

In this way, we reaffirm the position of the Orthodox Church of Moldova as a factor of consolidation for society, which prays and works unceasingly for the flourishing of the country and of the faithful people.

    Beloved Christians,

Undoubtedly, the 28th of September 2025 will enter the history of the Republic of Moldova as a very important day for our future. Therefore, we urge you to reflect with careful attention and to pray with trust to the Lord, that He may guide us all, each and every one, to make a wise choice, so that this day may be one of unity and not of division.

For this to be fulfilled, we advise all – clergy and laity – not to be lured by promises or dishonest gifts, but to follow the voice of conscience and of faith, not only on the day of the elections but in every moment of life.

So may the Good God help us!

    With archpastoral blessings,

    † VLADIMIR,

METROPOLITAN OF CHIȘINĂU AND OF ALL MOLDOVA
