On Thursday, October 30, members of the Orthodox Brotherhood “St. Paisy Velichkovsky” in Chișinău paid tribute to those who suffered as a result of the Soviet repressions, remembering with sorrow those who were deported, unjustly condemned, deprived of freedom, and even of life during those times of bitter memory.
With the blessing of His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chișinău and All Moldova, a moment of joint prayer took place in the first part of the day, joining other initiatives in the post-Soviet space where communities honor their victims by holding memorial services and commemorating their names. At this event, Protopriest Nicolae Ciobanu, Chairman of the Synodal Sector for Cultural Activities, represented the Metropolitan Directorate, performing a memorial service for the repose of the souls of those who suffered as a result of the Soviet repressions.
Organized with the involvement of the Orthodox Brotherhood “St. Paisy Velichkovsky,” this moment of remembrance was a solemn occasion to recall the sacrifices and sufferings endured by entire generations of Basarabians, as well as our duty to keep alive the memory of those who endured suffering for their faith, people, and freedom. We sincerely thank the organizers and all those who were involved in making this tribute possible.
