Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ, / although we cannot praise you worthily, / we honor you in love at your nativity, / for by it you ended your father’s silence and your mother’s barrenness, / proclaiming to the world the incarnation of the Son of God!
(Troparion of the Feat, Tone 4)
On Monday, 7 July, when the Orthodox Church celebrates the Nativity of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John, His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chișinău and All Moldova, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord in Chișinău.
His Eminence was assisted at the service by Archpriest Vadim Cheibaș, Metropolitan Secretary and Eclesiarch of the Cathedral, and the clergy of the holy place.
Saint John the Baptist, the greatest among the prophets, was called by God to prepare the way for the coming of the Saviour and to baptise Him in the waters of the Jordan. His life, marked by asceticism, witness to the truth, and self-sacrifice, remains to this day a model of faith, humility, and courage for all Christians.
