When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan,/ the worship of the Trinity was made manifest;/ for, the voice of the Father bare witness unto Thee,/ calling Thee His beloved Son;/ and the Spirit in the form of a dove/ confirmed the certainty of His word./ O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and enlightened the worlds,// glory be to Thee!
Troparion of the Feast of the Theophany
On Sunday, 19 January 2025, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the faithful of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord in Chișinău gathered in prayer for the Divine Liturgy officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir.
In an atmosphere of spiritual celebration, the Metropolitan was joined in prayer by Protopriest Vadim Cheibaș, Secretary of the Metropolis of Moldova, the clergy, and the faithful of the holy place of worship.
The liturgical responses were offered by the mixed diocesan choir of the Cathedral, conducted by Mrs. Angela Angheni.
Christians who arrived early in the morning waited devoutly for the sanctification of the holy water.
The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is also known as “Theophany” or “Epiphany,” as it commemorates the moment when Christ was baptised by Saint John the Baptist in the waters of the Jordan River, during which the Holy Trinity was revealed to the world.
One of the purposes of Christ’s baptism was to serve as a model for us, as our spiritual life begins with the Sacrament of Baptism, just as the work of salvation began with Christ’s Baptism, followed by His Passion, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension.
A special spirit of prayer marked the moment of the sanctification of the water, which is one of the most significant parts of today’s religious ceremony.
Following the blessing, the faithful received the Great Holy Water, which they may consume every morning on an empty stomach until the conclusion of the Feast on 27 January.
