On November 8, the Orthodox Church celebrates Saint Demetrius the Myrrh-Streamer. With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, Bishop Filaret officiated the Divine Liturgy at the “Nativity of the Lord” Metropolitan Cathedral in Chișinău.
“We celebrate today, following the ancient tradition of our Church, the feast of the Great Martyr Demetrius, the Myrrh-Streamer.
Our hearts are filled with spiritual joy whenever we honor the saints, for through their prayers, they become our helpers, intercessors, and advocates before God.
Thanks to their pure and holy lives, pleasing to God, the saints are held in special reverence by the faithful.
Today, with hymns, chants, and prayers, our Holy Church has woven wreaths of praise and thanksgiving in honor of Saint Demetrius. In this atmosphere of prayer and spiritual fragrance, it is fitting to draw closer to his life, deeds, and sufferings for Christ, so that today’s festive moments may serve as a source of spiritual growth and strengthening of faith and love toward God,” noted the Hierarch.
