On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church heard the report of the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, on the election of the Most Reverend Archimandrite Filaret (Cuzmin), abbot of the monastery “The Assumption of the Mother of God” in the village of Căpriana, r. Strășeni, as a vicar bishop (Minutes no. 97).
Metropolitan Vladimir, on behalf of the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, addressed His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kiril, with a request to examine the candidacy of Archimandrite Filaret (Cuzmin) for election as Bishop of Căpriana, vicar of the Diocese of Chișinău.
The hierarchs of the Orthodox Church of Moldova fully supported the candidacy and confirmed that Archimandrite Filaret fulfils the necessary requirements for ordination as bishop.
It was decided to elect Archimandrite Filaret (Cuzmin), cleric of the Diocese of Chisinau, as vicar bishop of Chisinau, with the title “Of Căpriana”.
The place and date of the episcopal ordination of Archimandrite Filaret (Cuzmin) were left to the discretion of His Holiness Patriarch Kiril.
