  • The Fifth Sunday of Great Lent – of Venerable Mary of Egypt, celebrated in the Chisinau Nativity Cathedral

10th April 2022, on the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent, when the Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Mary of Egypt, the first hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau.

Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, the Cathedral Dean and Metropolitan Secretary, with numerous clergy of the holy place, assisted the arch-pastor during the Divine Liturgy.

The liturgical responses were provided by the Cathedral Choir directed by Angela Angheni.

The Sundays of Great Lent are dedicated to the commemoration of saints who showed examples of ascetic deed and steady faith. St. Mary lived in the 4th and 5th centuries, repenting and turning from sinful life to an image of virtue and faithfulness to God. Her life example shows that there are no sins that God could not forgive to a truly repenting soul, firmly determined to devote the rest of own life to serving the Creator.

Numerous church-goers communed with the Body and Blood of Christ after the Lord’s Prayer.

The following is Palm Sunday, commemorating the Lord’s entry in Jerusalem and ascension to Golgotha.
