14th April 2019, Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the 5th Sunday of Great Lent – the Sunday of Mary of Egypt, in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau.
The first hierarch of the Moldovan Orthodox Church was assisted at the Divine Service by the Cathedral Dean and Metropolitan Secretary, archpriest Vadim Cheibas, and the clergy of the Cathedral.
Commemorating Venerable Mary of Egypt, the Orthodox Church underlines that God forgives any sin to someone who repents with the whole heart. St. Mary proved this with her own example, for being a young woman with very bad reputation and profligate behaviour, she wholeheartedly repented when she was only 17, and spent other 47 years of her life in ascetic doing in the Egyptian desert. St. Mary’s example teaches the Christians that true repentance is always accompanied by a real improvement of one’s life.
During the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Vladimir officiated two ordinations: deacon Mihail Cepraga was ordained priest for the church of Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Straisteni community, Bacioi, Chisinau, and the 3rd year Theology student Vladimir Condrea was ordained deacon for the Dormition church in Tintareni, Telenesti.
Numerous church-goers communed with the Holy Body and Blood of Christ after the Lord’s Prayer at the Divine Liturgy.
