  • National Scientific Conference “Archpriest Mihail Ceakir, Basarabian Church scholar” was held at the Metropolitan Residence

    10 September 2018, the Synodal Hall at the Metropolitan Residence housed National Scientific Conference “Archpriest Mihail Ceakir, Basarabian Church scholar”.

    The conference is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the repose in the Lord of archpriest Mihail Ceakir (1861-1938).

    In the morning, prior to the event, Metropolitan Vladimir officiated a Panichida service at the Central Cemetery of Chisinau, at the tomb of archpriest Mihail Ceakir.

    Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and Moldova, Bishop Anatolie of Cahul and Comrat, Bishop Ioan of Soroca, Vicar of the Metropolis of Moldova, archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Metropolitan Secretary, and other clerics participated in the conference organized by the Metropolis of Chisinau and all Moldova in collaboration with the Academy of Science of Moldova, the Institute of Cultural Patrimony, and the Executive Committee of Gagauz administrative territorial unit.

    The scientific society present at the conference was represented by Vice-President of the Academy of Science of Moldova, Academician Ion Guceac, Academician Victor Tvircun, and other researchers.

    Archpriest Mihail Ceakir unfold his ministry in Chisinau, and is a prominent figure in the cultural and spiritual society of Basarabia between the two World Wars. He was a devoted clergyman and preacher, cultivating the love of the word of God among pupils. Archpriest Mihail Ceakir served the Lord in the Chapel of the Orthodox Theological Seminary in Chisinau for about 35 years, and considerably contributed to the publication of church press, attending for spiritual needs of the church-goers.

    This devoted servant of the Holy Altar is rightfully called “the apostle of Gagaus people”, for he considerably contributed to the translation of the Holy Bible into Gagauz language.
