  • The Sunday before the Nativity of the Lord, in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau

31 December 31, 2017. On the Sunday before the Nativity of the Lord and Feast of Venerable Daniel of Voronet, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau, assisted by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Cathedral Dean and Metropolitan Secretary, Archimandrite Filaret (Cuzmin), Monk-Superior of Capriana Monastery, and clergy of the Cathedral.

Numerous church-goers attended the Service, uttering thanks-giving prayers on the last day of the civil year, and commemorating the holy fore-fathers of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Today’s service was very special for hierodeacon Veniamin (Topal), who was ordained hieromonk for the Dormition of the Theotokos Monastery in Capriana, Straseni region.

In the pastoral message delivered by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, with the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir, the church-goers were advised to continue the fast before the Nativity of the Lord and celebrate the civil new year in sobriety and with spiritual ascension.

The Gospel reading of this Sunday presents the list of 42 generations of bodily Fore-Fathers of our Lord Jesus Christ, underlining that the Lord was true God and true man, and that all human generations from Adam to blessed Joseph lived in the expectation of the Messiah.
