  • The second Sunday of the Great Lent, at the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau

On the second Sunday of the Great Lent, the Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau.

The Metropolitan was assisted at the service by Archpriest Vadim Cheibas, the Dean of the Cathedral and Metropolitan secretary, and the clergy of the holy site.

The miracle of the healing of the paralytic related by the Holy Gospel read out on this Sunday in Orthodox churches calls us to repentance and witnessing of our sins, but also to prayer for our neighbour. The faith of those five: the paralytic and his four friends, teach us to hope and to work for our salvation. The fatherly love of God shown to this poor ill person by our Lord Jesus Christ – the Doctor who heals and soothes the pain of all those who call His help, is the essence of today’s Gospel reading. Lord Jesus tells to those around that the cause of any pain and illness is sin, so He advises the healed paralytic: “Son, your sins are forgiven you… I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house” (Mark 2: 5-11).

On the second Sunday of the Great Lent the Orthodox Church also commemorates St. Gregory Palamas, the ascetic who taught about the importance of the heart prayer and inner transfiguration of the soul.

During this Divine Liturgy, monk Maximilian (Catarau), 1st year student at the Orthodox Theology Academy of Chisinau, was ordained hierodeacon and appointed to ministry and obedience in the Saharna Monastery.
