The second national scientific and practical Conference “Church heritage – recovering the past” was held in the conference hall of the Metropolitan Residence. Opening the event, the Metropolitan Secretary Mitred Archpriest., Dr. Vadim Cheibas read out the greeting message of His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir. In their discourses, depute minister of Culture, Mr. Gheorghe Postica, and vice-president of theAcademyofScience, Mrs. Mariana Slapac, greeted the organization of this scientific conference and referred to tight collaboration between the Metropolis of Moldova, The Ministry of Culture, and theAcademyofScience. They mentioned that this collaboration has a noble mission of giving value to perennial heritage of our people and educating the society, especially the young generation, in the spirit of respect and love for the spiritual and historical patrimony of our nation.
The issues discussed within the Conference include: Challenges in the restoration of certain objectives of monastic architecture in the Republic of Moldova; Medieval and pre-modern age necropolises in the courtyards of churches, as subjects of archeological research; The Church and the protection of cultural church heritage of the country; Preservation and restoration of icons of the patrimony or the National Arts Museum of Moldova; Reflecting the image of the Orthodox Church of Moldova in mass media; Historical and spiritual value of Sacred books – treasury of churches and monasteries of Moldova; Traditional carpets in the collections of Moldovan Monasteries, as part of the National patrimony; Preservation and restoration of wood churches.
In the end of the Conference, the members adopted the resolution with certain recommendations to the relevant structures.
These recommendations include: the need of further collaboration between the Metropolis of Moldova (including monasteries and parishes), the Ministry of Culture, the Academy of Science and other relevant scientific, cultural institutions, public organizations, in order to safeguard and promote the spiritual heritage of our people; publication of the materials of the scientific Conference in the scientific journal “The sacred heritage”; systematize and register in a catalogue the items of liturgical inventory of churches and monasteries across the country, open a Church Museum, with the support of the Metropolis of Moldova and the Ministry of Culture, create a specialized Association of painters, architects, restorers, church decorative art craftsmen, and launch a web page presenting the church patrimony of the Republic of Moldova, etc.
