  • Christian peacefully protest against compulsory personal codes attribution to citizens

    Three days in a row, a numerous group of Christians continue peaceful protest in front of the Palace of the Republic, the temporary headquarters of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. They are protesting against the draft law 901 of 03.05.12. imposing compulsory attribution of identity codes to all citizens. The protesters hold prayers in front of the parliament, urging the MPs to maintain alternative population book-keeping, without attributing ID codes or other mechanically readable devices and signs, preserving the possibility to keep records without automatic reading of personal data.

    It should be mentioned that answering to the resolution of the Synod Commission for moral and social issues, His Eminence Vladimir addressed to the Speaker of the Parliament of theRepublicofMoldova, Mr. Marian Lupu, an open letter:

    TO THE PARLIAMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

    Today, June 26th 2012, the meeting of the Synod Commission for moral and social issues was held. Following the discussions, a decision was made regarding the introduction of new technologies for the identification of citizens and the danger of automatic control of personal data.

    In the light of the above-mentioned, we ask the Parliament of theRepublicofMoldovaand the competent structures of the State administration to ensure alternative in the documentation of the population, without attributing identity codes and other mechanically-readable signs, and maintaining manual recording of these persons. Thus, we ask the Parliament to modify the draft law No. 901 of 03.05.12., and preserve the possibility of documentation, without automatic personal data collection.
