  • Bishop Dionisie Erhan commemorated on 75th anniversary of repose in the Lord

Bishop Dionisie Erhan of Cetatea Alba and Ismail was commemorated at the Holy Monastery of St. George in Suruceni, Ialoveni District, on the 75th anniversary of the repose in the Lord.

This year, during reconstruction works at the Monastery of St. George in Suruceni, Ialoveni, the relics of ever-commemorated Bishop Dionisie (Erhan) were discovered.

Thus, on Monday, 17th September 2018, the day of Bishop Dionisie’s commemoration, Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova, who was greeted at the monastery of Suruceni by mother Epistimia, the nun superior of the monastic settlement, and numerous priests and deacons.

Concelebrating to Metropolitan Vladimir during the Divine Service was His Grace Ioan, Metropolitan Vicar and Bishop of Soroca, and a group of clergymen from different regions of the country, who prayed among the nuns and sisters of the monastery and numerous pilgrims arrived to commemorate Bishop Dionisie.

During the Liturgy celebrated in St. Nicholas new church of the monastery, deacon Laurentiu Ionasca was ordained priest and appointed to ministry in the Monastery of Suruceni. Metropolitan Vladimir congratulated the newly-ordained clergyman, wishing him spiritual steadiness and unshaken faith in the service of the Holy Altar.

After the Liturgy, a commemoration service was officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, praying for the repose in the Lord of Bishop Dionisie, who was monk superior of this monastery before his election and ordination as vicar bishop of Chisinau and later appointment into the episcopal chair of Cetatea Alba and Ismail, holding this ministry for about 25 years.

Metropolitan Vladimir addressed an arch-pastoral message to the liturgical community, speaking about the life and ministry of ever-commemorated bishop Dionisie, and his important role in the spiritual life of Basarabia between the two world wars. The arch-pastor congratulated the monastic community, the monastery’s ctitors, and the pilgrims present at the service, expressing firm certitude that the church has one more fervent intercessor for the Christianity in the name of ever-commemorated bishop Dionisie.

Mother Epistimia, the nun-superior of the monastic community of Suruceni, thanked the arch-pastors and the clergy for prayers shared with the community, underlining the sacrificial pastoral mission of Bishop Dionisie, who lived a true monastic life in holiness and was an infatigable missionary and archpastor of Orthodoxy in Basarabia in the first half of the 20th century.
