  • Bishiops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church held on February 2 and 3 in the Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow

    Synod

On February 3, 2016, the Sacred Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church continued its work at the Church Councils Hall of the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.

On February 2, there were four plenary sessions. Reports were made by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Ukraine. The first day of the Council concluded with a conference of the bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church who serve outside her canonical territory. Their meeting was chaired by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations (DECR).

Before the second day of sessions began, Patriarch Kirill and the Council members worshipped at the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Christ the Saviour, which was celebrated by Archpriest Alexander Dasayev, dean of the Voskresensky district in Moscow and rector of the church of the Resurrection-at-Sokolniki, and the clergy of the capital city.

The fifth plenary session, present at which is a delegation of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, began with a discussion on the canonization of Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev) of Bogucharovo.
