  • Archpastoral service on the Third Sunday after Pentecost, at the Metropolitan Cathedral

    Sunday, 17 June, 2018.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova, Vicar Bishop Siluan of Orhei celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau on the Third Sunday after Pentecost.

Bishop Siluan was assisted at the service by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, Metropolitan Secretary and Cathedral Dean, and the clergy of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Today’s Gospel Reading (Matthew 6:22-33) refers to a passage from the Lord’s Mountain Sermon, teaching Christians to completely entrust their lives to God and conduct by spiritual values in all their thoughts, words, and actions. When Christ says that the lamp of the body is the eye, He invites us to align our lives to the truth of God, and let the law of God guide all our lives. St. John Chrysostom mentions in the context of this passage in the Gospel of Matthew: “We were not created to eat and drink, and wear clothes, but to please God, to gain the gifts of the live to come”. In other words, a man’s life cannot be limited to physical and physiological needs, they are only means of bodily existence, while the essence of life is to seek the Kingdom of God and His rightfulness.

Saying this, our Lord Jesus Christ does not invite us to neglect or despise physical needs, but underlines that all this will be added to us, if God’s Kingdom and His rightfulness becomes the core of our life.
